Camp Overview

Learn to prototype with the micro:bit microcontroller while creating fun projects in our 2-day microCamp! You’ll become familiar with programming concepts and electronics components, while building practical, hands-on electronics projects using the micro:bit.

At the end of the camp, you will create a simple game and a kit that looks like a handheld gameboy that you can take home. Furthermore, you’ll be well-equipped and hopefully inspired to make many more projects on the micro:bit.

Takeaways

By the end of the course, you will better understand electronics concepts through handling the micro:bit independently, or with external sensors and actuators. You will also learn to use Microsoft’s Programming Experience Toolkit (PXT) programming environment and develop computational thinking skills. Then, showcase your creativity and innovation in an exciting team project to consolidate your learning. Find out more details about the curriculum.

What is the micro:bit?

They’re tiny handheld programmable computers jam-packed with tons of built-in features, like 25 red LED lights to flash messages and two programmable buttons to play your favourite games or skip songs. From using it as an automatic fish-feeder to playing a banana keyboard, the micro:bit has endless possibilities for you to start your Digital Maker journey!

What Will You Learn?

Electronics concepts

You use all kinds of electronics devices all day—find out more about how they work! You’ll learn about digital vs. analog, input vs. output, and much more.

Code the micro:bit

The micro:bit is a tiny computer you can control with code. You’ll write your very own programs to control the micro:bit and various attached components!

Program in MakeCode

You’ll be doing your coding in Microsoft MakeCode, a beginner-friendly block-based programming environment. No semicolons or curly braces here!

Computer Science concepts

You may not hear us explicitly teaching these, but you’ll learn about core CS concepts like variables, event handlers, conditionals, and loops.
