Akmal bin Abd Rahman

Co-founder & CEO

Akmal runs Tinkercademy for schools and the public, and oversees curriculum design, logistics, manpower, materials, and… everything else, really. He graduated from Cornell University, taught at North View Secondary, and plays indie music nobody else in the office seems to appreciate.

YJ handles corporate classes, business development, and designs curriculum for mobile & web classes. At Tinkertanker, he oversees GuestDay and front-end work, and writes jokes for our social media platforms. He studied at Stanford University and taught at Raffles Institution.

Steven Chan

Steven Chan

Co-founder

Steven develops many of our advanced classes on algorithms, electronics, and hardware, and he takes care of our store and overall engineering at Tinkertanker. He graduated from MIT, worked at MICA, then at PayPal. We’re not sure where he got that Portal gun.
Lho Chen Yang

Lho Chen Yang

Edu + Biz Development Manager

Chen Yang develops our education programmes in hardware, specialising in courses for young learners. Through his startup, STEAM 4 Kids (acquired by Tinkertanker in 2016), CY hones his classes in Scratch, Raspberry Pi, Minecraft and more to develop students’ creativity, analytical, and problem-solving skills. CY graduated from NUS with a BSc in Computer Engineering.

Mike Gonsalves

Mike Gonsalves

Edu + Biz Development Manager

Mike spends 45% of his time creating curriculum, 30% teaching classes, and 35% thinking he’s really good at stats. He’s taught and developed lesson plans for ages 5 through 50 in topics and tools as diverse as Scratch, Python, data science, Raspberry Pi, littleBits, Circuit Stickers, and KIBO robotics. In his past lives, he was an actuarial analyst and a student at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Tracey Yuen

Tracey Yuen

Senior Curriculum Specialist

Tracey develops our curriculum for Scratch, Python, and microbit. He has a love of science and tech, and is an even bigger fan of his i-devices. He was featured on Tech in Asia once for his mid-career switch to coding instruction! Tracey graduated from Santa Clara University, and taught as a MOE teacher at Victoria School and Manjusri Secondary.

Sarah Ho

Sarah Ho

Tinkerer-Curriculum Specialist

Sarah helps Tinkertanker come up with or finish random projects, is a general purpose all-abouter and tries (often in vain, sadly) to keep the office organised. She hates waste and is a terrible hoarder, but that helps when she’s looking for things to hack. Sarah studied interaction design in NUS, where she co-founded NUSMakers to encourage creative making and tinkering among her peers.
