Akmal bin Abd Rahman
Co-founder & CEO
Akmal runs Tinkercademy for schools and the public, and oversees curriculum design, logistics, manpower, materials, and… everything else, really. He graduated from Cornell University, taught at North View Secondary, and plays indie music nobody else in the office seems to appreciate.
Soon Yin Jie
Co-founder
YJ handles corporate classes, business development, and designs curriculum for mobile & web classes. At Tinkertanker, he oversees GuestDay and front-end work, and writes jokes for our social media platforms. He studied at Stanford University and taught at Raffles Institution.
Steven Chan
Co-founder
Steven develops many of our advanced classes on algorithms, electronics, and hardware, and he takes care of our store and overall engineering at Tinkertanker. He graduated from MIT, worked at MICA, then at PayPal. We’re not sure where he got that Portal gun.
Mike Gonsalves
Edu + Biz Development Manager
Mike spends 45% of his time creating curriculum, 30% teaching classes, and 35% thinking he’s really good at stats. He’s taught and developed lesson plans for ages 5 through 50 in topics and tools as diverse as Scratch, Python, data science, Raspberry Pi, littleBits, Circuit Stickers, and KIBO robotics. In his past lives, he was an actuarial analyst and a student at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Tracey Yuen
Senior Curriculum Specialist
Tracey develops our curriculum for Scratch, Python, and microbit. He has a love of science and tech, and is an even bigger fan of his i-devices. He was featured on Tech in Asia once for his mid-career switch to coding instruction! Tracey graduated from Santa Clara University, and taught as a MOE teacher at Victoria School and Manjusri Secondary.
