Should our school choose Canva Code or Figma for IMDA LEARN Roadmaps?

Choose AI Product Design with Canva Code if you want students to build a working digital product (forms, data records, and a dashboard) by directing AI with structured prompts, explaining their logic before they generate anything. Choose UI/UX Design with Figma if you want the focus on user research, screen design, and clickable prototypes, with AI used in only one guided lesson. Both are 26-hour courses for secondary and JC students that run in the browser on laptops or Chromebooks. Neither needs prior experience.

Course Overview

AI-assisted product design using Canva Code and the Canva ecosystem. Students build a working digital product through a disciplined design process: structured prompting, user-centred interface design, interaction design, structured data, dashboards, public API concepts, and product presentation.

The course is deliberately framed as AI-assisted product design rather than AI application development. Students learn that AI can help generate and revise prototypes, but they must first explain what they intend to build. Before prompting, students describe flows such as user input to logic to output, user to interface to API to data to interface, or form to fields to records to dashboard — keeping the learning centred on computational thinking, product reasoning, and human judgement.

Later lessons cover structured data, forms, dashboards, and presentation, ending with a product showcase. No prior coding or design experience is needed.

Lesson Outcomes

  • Use structured prompting frameworks to direct Canva Code with clear audience, context, constraints, and examples.

  • Apply an Explain Before You Prompt routine by describing user input, logic, output, interface flow, data flow, or dashboard flow before AI generation.

  • Design and personalise product interfaces for a defined target user, with attention to hierarchy, readability, and accessibility.

  • Model structured data — forms, fields, and records — and present it through dashboards.

  • Test, critique, and revise a digital product through peer feedback.

  • Present a finished product and explain the design decisions behind it.

What people say about our courses

The programme taught me that anything is possible. To be able to learn, from scratch, how to code an entire app and publish it on the App Store ― it's an experience that I'd recommend to anyone who's interested in coding! The community also kept me coming back long after I graduated. Truly a great programme.

Tinkercademy is a flexible, responsive and innovative partner, ready to always collaborate to develop cutting-edge coding programmes together with the school. They have depth of expertise, in both technology skills and pedagogy, to understand the needs of our students and engage them holistically.

My past year with the programme has been an incredible journey that I will cherish forever. I've always dreamt of sharing my work with the world, and thanks to the programme's supportive mentors, I turned that dream into reality by publishing my app on the App Store for everyone to use. Along the way, I made unforgettable memories and gained hands-on experience in app development.

Very useful workshop. Guidance and examples were very beginner friendly and easy for participants to follow and try during the workshop. Good to build confidence especially for absolute beginners.

Having the experience as ex-school teachers, Tinkercademy is able to utilise sound educational pedagogy… We continually receive good feedback from students… An Arduino teachers' workshop with Tinkercademy even inspired a couple of our Science teachers to design a term-long performance task.

Most of the time i didn't feel lost, it was thoroughly well explained. I also like the Kahoot quizzes at the end of each session.
