An open-ended tinkering programme

Tinker X

A flexible program for hands-on learning in coding and making.

Welcome to Tinker X, an open-ended program for anyone interested in coding and engineering. Unlike a traditional classroom, we offer a flexible mix of hands-on instruction and independent work. We give you the resources and support to learn at your own pace, whether you're following a structured curriculum or bringing your own project to life.

AI is already disrupting traditional education, moving it away from a rigid, one-size-fits-all model toward a more personalized and efficient system. We've embraced this change. Our program uses a flipped classroom approach where you actively engage with materials on your own, applying a "just-in-time" learning approach. This means you focus on learning the skills you need to complete a project you're excited about.

This process is designed to be challenging and, at times, frustrating—and that's by design. By learning to push through obstacles and solve problems on your own, you'll develop grit, critical thinking, and initiative — skills that are essential for a future where technology is constantly changing.

Extensive Materials

We offer a wide range of course materials for all skill levels and interests, from introductory coding to data science and AI. Our curriculum has been used with thousands of students, and we also curate high-quality online content to fit your needs.

Maker Library

Don't have the space (or you're just too sensible) to put a laser cutter at home? No problem. We have the equipment you need to make and tinker: electronics modules, laser cutter, 3D printer, soldering station, miter saw, and much more — plus a kit and robot library.

Community

Learning on your own can get lonely. Joining a community of like-minded tinkerers is inspirational and motivational — people who just want to see what happens when you connect this to that and spend hours tinkering with code and electronics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a curriculum?

Yes. We have a wide library of self-paced course materials, and we'll guide you through what to take on based on your interests and skill level.

What can I choose to learn?

Anything from introductory coding and web development, to data science, AI, game development, robotics, and physical computing with micro:bits, Arduinos, and more.

Is this suitable for my child?

Tinker X works best for motivated learners who enjoy exploring. Younger learners who can work independently for an hour or so at a time tend to get the most out of it.

Am I too old for your program?

No. We have members of all ages — adults, professionals, hobbyists, and retirees who just want to tinker with technology.

Why should I go for this over a traditional enrichment centre?

Traditional enrichment teaches to a fixed syllabus. Tinker X teaches you to learn — giving you the resources, mentors, and space to build what you care about.

Tinker X Scholars

Tinker X Scholars

A scholarship opportunity for students who demonstrate a passion for technology.

Technology education is often treated as an enrichment activity, which can create inequality in who has access to it. To help make technology education more equitable and accessible, we are offering Tinker X scholarships for students.

These scholarships provide highly subsidized membership to students who are passionate about technology but lack access to expert mentors, guidance, or tools.

To be considered, students should submit a portfolio of their previous tech-related work. We're not looking for perfect results, but rather a clear demonstration of effort and passion. Applicants must also show a need for financial assistance.

In return, Tinker X scholars will be expected to give back to the community, helping to inspire the next generation of learners.

If you or someone you know might be a good fit, please contact us at hello@tinkercademy.com to learn more or to apply. We are accepting applications now.
