Do I need to know how to code to take Mastering the Web?

No. It's for people who work with developers, or want to start building, and need to understand how web apps actually work. Day 1 covers HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in the browser; day 2 covers servers, databases, and APIs with Python and Flask. You can take one day or both. If you'd rather build a working app quickly with AI tools than learn the underlying technologies, Vibe Coding for Digital Builders is the better fit.

Course Overview

Mastering the Web is a one- or two-day course on how web applications work, from the page in your browser to the server and database behind it. It answers a simple question: what actually happens between clicking a link and seeing a working web app?

This programme takes you from the basics of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript on the frontend (day 1), to servers and databases on the backend (day 2). Get a taste of web development, and gain the skills to communicate effectively with tech teams and understand the web's potential.

It suits founders with a web app idea, and anyone who works with developers and wants to follow the conversation. There's more detail on the Mastering the Web course site.

Lesson Outcomes

In this broad web development programme, you will learn to appreciate core technologies that power the internet, and get hands-on building your own versatile websites with core front-end web technologies: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Gain exposure too to server-side web development through hands-on projects involving Python and Flask, a flexible web development framework. Through this process, you will gain practical experience and a solid foundation in web development.

By the end of the programme, you will learn:

  • Understand the fundamentals of front-end web development with the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript languages

  • Create a basic back-end web application using Flask and Python programming (day 2)

  • What application programming interfaces (APIs) are, and how they let you access complex capabilities from providers such as Google and OpenAI (day 2)

What people say about our courses

This was one of the most engaging and practical training sessions I've attended. The trainer explained concepts clearly, encouraged active participation, and shared real-world examples that made the learning immediately applicable.

Sessions have been great, they are flexible and allow for a lot of creativity. We always practise what we learn by building mini apps, which has helped the steep learning curve feel less steep.

Vibe-coding opens up the opportunity for us to create solutions for our personal pain points.

Great workshop session with lots of examples shared, and time set aside to try out the various tools
